An Islamic elementary school burned amid a series of attacks following the arrest of a Moroccan Dutchman in the killing of a filmmaker whose movie criticized Islam.
The words “Theo Rest in Peace” had been scrawled inside the school in the town of Uden in homage to filmmaker Theo Van Gogh. Mayor Joke Kersten said she didn’t know the cause of the fire but suspected arson.
Arsonists attempted to burn Protestant churches in Rotterdam, Utrecht and Amersfoort. An Islamic elementary school in Eindhoven was bombed Monday. No injuries or arrests had been reported.
