From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The City Council approved a safety program for large high-rise buildings that requires each to have a fire safety director and floor wardens on site.
The purpose is to ensure that buildings can be evacuated quickly in emergencies. Building owners would face misdemeanor charges if they didn’t comply.
A final vote is required next year; about 240 buildings will be affected.
