Many dog years ago in Peru

VISITOR Al Esquerra, of Laguna Beach, got this view of Machu Picchu -- and a taste of a dog’s life -- during a 10-day tour of Peru in October. He and his wife, Darlene, caught a crack-of-dawn bus to the site. “I was waiting for the fog to go away.... And then this dog just came over and sat there.” The pooch is surveying quite a domain: a 15th century sanctuary for privileged Incas. Esquerra, who owns an advertising agency, captured the scene on film using a wide-angle lens on his Canon Elan 7.
