The City Council unanimously approved Ed Boks as the new general manager of the Department of Animal Services.
Boks replaces Guerdon Stuckey, who was fired last year by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa after angering animal activists and the commissioners who oversee the department for not reducing the number of animals killed at city shelters.
During testimony, Boks said he hopes to eliminate the need for Los Angeles to euthanize dogs and cats over the next five years.
