Maurice Weisner, 88; Admiral Headed U.S. Pacific Forces in 1970s

Retired Adm. Maurice Weisner, 88, who commanded the nation’s post-Vietnam War Pacific forces, died Sunday in Pensacola, Fla. No cause of death was given.
Weisner was commander in chief of Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force operations in the Pacific from August 1976 until his retirement in November 1979. He took command from Adm. Noel A.M. Gyler, who saw U.S. involvement in Vietnam end.
A native of Knoxville, Tenn., “Mickey” Weisner was president of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation in Pensacola in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the museum doubled its size.
