These Patriot games have a messy ending

Isn’t it reassuring that Coach Belichick has accepted “full responsibility” for having made a “mistake”? Mike Vick, too, admitted having made mistakes.
No one anymore admits to having done anything immoral or even unfair, and surely not intentionally. No, the various crimes and misdemeanors by athletes and politicians are just errors, like those we used to make at times in arithmetic classes. Just carelessness, a slip of attention, nothing serious.

Kudos to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for lowering the boom on Patriots Coach Bill “Belicheat.” I knew something smelled fishy in New England, and it wasn’t the chowder. A mediocre coach with a losing record just doesn’t become a world-beater overnight, no matter how talented a team he may inherit (see: Marty Schottenheimer) Now, for the ultimate comeuppance: How about an asterisk on those Super Bowl titles?

If David Stern and Bud Selig ran their leagues like Roger Goodell, there’d be far fewer problems in the NBA and Major League Baseball.
