‘07 fraud losses hit $239 million

U.S. Internet fraud victims lost $239 million in 2007, according to an FBI study of complaints reported to law enforcement agencies.
The losses, which averaged $2,530 per complaint, increased 20% from the previous year. The report covers 90,008 cases referred to criminal authorities by a Web-based tip line run by the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center, a nonprofit corporation that focuses on cyber crime.
