3.4 magnitude earthquake hits

A small, 3.4 magnitude quake struck this desert area shortly after 6 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A preliminary report from the group said the quake struck six miles northeast of Desert Hot Springs.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said there were no reports of injuries or damage.
