Serious on solar

Re “State solar power plans are as big as all outdoors,” Dec. 3
It’s wonderful to see that California is finally getting serious about solar power, because it holds the obvious answer to our energy needs.
Environmentalists who object to the new privately funded solar farms in the desert are deeply misguided. More solar roofs on our homes and businesses are essential, but California will need public and private solar efforts. Our deserts offer a wonderful new kind of California gold. It’s clean, abundant and getting cheaper all the time.
The environmentalists should worry instead about the consequences of global warming and pollution caused by burning coal and natural gas for our electricity. It really does make sense to use a few square miles of desert to help save a whole planet.
