A Marine has been sentenced to 30 months in the brig and a bad-conduct discharge after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter and reckless driving in a Humvee rollover in Iraq that killed one Marine and injured two.
Lance Cpl. Michael Valdez of Pueblo, Colo., admitted guilt for the Nov. 28, 2007, accident near Al Asad, Iraq, that killed Cpl. Allen C. Roberts. During his court-martial, Valdez admitted that he was driving the Humvee in a reckless manner so that it would “fish-tail.” Instead, it rolled over, and Roberts, the turret-gunner, was killed.
