Man sets fire to home, kills self

A 40-year-old man set his house on fire and then fatally shot himself Sunday night after a domestic dispute, authorities said Monday.
Moses Martinez was found dead in the backyard of his home in the 16000 block of Ballentine Place in an unincorporated area of Covina, said Lt. Cheryl MacWillie of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
Authorities were responding to a domestic violence call about 8 p.m. Sunday when they found the house on fire and Martinez’s body in the yard, said Deputy Oscar Butao of the Sheriff’s Department.
Coroner’s officials said homicide detectives at the scene reported that Martinez appeared to have shot himself after setting his house ablaze.
