at New Jersey 2, Buffalo 1: Brian Gionta and Patrik Elias scored in the shootout and the Devils sent the Sabres to a seventh consecutive defeat.
Carolina 1, at Boston 0: Cam Ward stopped 19 shots and Eric Staal scored the only goal. It was the Bruins’ first home shutout since a 2-0 loss to Colorado last March.
Philadelphia 4, at Atlanta 1: Jeff Carter scored two goals within a span of 13 seconds in the second period and the Flyers defeated the Thrashers for the eighth time in a row.
Tampa Bay 5, at N.Y. Rangers 3: Chris Gratton broke out of a season-long scoring slump with two goals and an assist, and the Lightning ended a seven-game losing streak.
at Montreal 4, Chicago 3: Guillaume Latendresse scored 3:18 into overtime to give the Canadiens the victory. The Blackhawks lost their sixth in a row.
at Detroit 1, Colorado 0: Dominik Hasek made 19 saves for his second consecutive shutout, and 79th of his career, and Pavel Datsyuk scored the only goal.
Pittsburgh 3, at Florida 1: Ty Conklin made 27 saves to remain unbeaten in eight starts and the Penguins extended their longest winning streak in nine years to seven games.
at St. Louis 6, Columbus 1: Andy McDonald scored two goals and had an assist and the Blues got another strong game from goalie Manny Legace.
Phoenix 3, at Calgary 1: Ilya Bryzgalov made 30 saves and the Coyotes extended their winning streak to five games. Alex Tanguay scored Calgary’s goal late in the third period.
at Vancouver 3, N.Y. Islanders 2: Alex Edler scored the winning goal in the sixth round of the shootout. The Canucks outshot the Islanders, 45-28.
Nashville 7, at Kings 0: Chris Mason earned his 10th NHL shutout with 28 saves.
