Yay, superheroes

JUST finished reading Rachel Abramowitz’s column on superhero movies [“Wham! Boom! On the Brain,” June 25]. I have a question: Why did she write this?
There are only five superhero movies in release as of today, right now. I counted over 43 other films -- covering every conceivable subject matter -- in the Calendar section. Why is Abramowitz going to see films that she obviously hates?
How about the fact that many people, from ages 6 to 60, simply enjoy this kind of movie? They’re exciting, imaginative and fast-moving. Simply put, they’re good action movies, which have been the staple of cinema since it began (they’ve replaced the western, or perhaps that’s too much to understand).
Abramowitz writes that perhaps she’s over-thinking this phenomenon. Gee . . . .
