Indonesian prosecutors said they were suing former President Suharto’s youngest son for $439 million over a business deal involving his failed national car project.
The attorney general’s office, acting on behalf of the Finance Ministry, seeks $439 million in damages from Hutomo Mandala Putra, better known as Tommy Suharto, and his companies, which include PT Humpuss.
PT Timor Putra Nasional, set up by Tommy Suharto to build Indonesia’s national car, defaulted on its loans to Indonesian state banks after a 1997-98 financial crisis.
Tommy Suharto’s lawyers could not be reached for comment.
