LOST IN A FOREST OF BAMBOO

Tyler Fukunaga, 13, took his first trip to Japan in June, when he and his family visited Tokyo, Kamakura, Kyoto and Nara. The Buddhist and Shinto shrines amazed him, he says, “each so different and beautiful.” The Rancho Palos Verdes resident and student at Ridgecrest Intermediate School captured this shot of a bamboo forest in Kamakura. “In the heat of the summer, we found a cool haven,” he says.
