Giants’ Lincecum wins Cy Young by wide margin

Tim Lincecum won the National League Cy Young Award by a comfortable margin Tuesday, taking home pitching’s highest honor in his second major league season.

The slender kid with the whirling windup joined Mike McCormick (1967) as the only San Francisco Giants pitchers to win a Cy Young.

Lincecum, 24, received 23 of 32 first-place votes and 137 points in balloting by the Baseball Writers’ Assn. of America. Brandon Webb of the Arizona Diamondbacks got four first-place votes and finished second with 73 points.

Lincecum was 18-5 with a 2.62 earned-run average and a major league-best 265 strikeouts.

Matt Holliday’s trade to the Oakland Athletics was nearly completed Tuesday and an announcement was expected as early as today, two people with knowledge of the discussions said. The Colorado Rockies were set to send Holliday to the A’s for reliever Huston Street, left-hander Greg Smith and outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.

Starting pitcher Scott Olsen and outfielder Josh Willingham were traded by the Florida Marlins to the Washington Nationals in a five-player deal.

Steelers’ Parker expected to play

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Willie Parker will return to practice today, and Coach Mike Tomlin is optimistic Parker will play Sunday against the San Diego Chargers. . . . Ty Law is back in a New York Jets uniform, practicing with the team after signing a one-year deal. . . . Former USC wide receiver Keary Colbert was released by the Seattle Seahawks.

White, Teter confirm for tour

Athletes who have confirmed for the inaugural Winter Dew Tour include 2006 Olympic gold medal-winning snowboarders Shaun White and Hannah Teter.

A list that will be released today also includes Gretchen Bleiler, winner of a silver medal in 2006; Kelly Clark, who won Olympic gold in 2002, and Danny Kass, who has two Olympic silver medals.

There had been concern over whether the Winter Dew Tour would be embraced by top athletes. Also among those who have committed are snowboarders Mason Aguirre, Kevin Pearce, Travis Rice, Finland’s Antti Autti and Australia’s Torah Bright; and free-skiers Tanner Hall, Simon Dumont and Canada’s Sarah Burke.

The Winter Dew Tour features competitions in superpipe and slopestyle. The stops are Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado Dec. 18-21; Mount Snow in Vermont Jan. 8-11, and Northstar-at-Tahoe in Lake Tahoe Feb. 19-22.

Djokovic reaches Cup semifinals

Novak Djokovic rallied past Nikolay Davydenko, 7-6 (3), 0-6, 7-5, to reach the semifinals of the Masters Cup at Shanghai. In the day’s other round-robin match, Juan Martin del Potro defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5). . . . American Peter Marshall set a short-course world record in the 100-meter backstroke at a World Cup meet in Stockholm. He finished in 49.94 seconds, breaking Ryan Lochte’s record of 49.99 set two years ago. . . . Jockey Julien Leparoux tied Hall of Famer Pat Day’s one-day track record with seven wins at Churchill Downs. Day set the record on June 20, 1984. . . .
