Rep. Rangel says he owes the IRS

The head of the House tax-writing committee admitted that he owes about $5,000 to the Internal Revenue Service for failing to report income.
Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.), 78, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, insisted he had made innocent errors of omission, not acts of deliberate deception or greed.
The errors, he said, would be corrected in amended filings to the IRS and Congress.
