* at No. 5 Louisiana State 34, Mississippi State 24: Charles Scott surpassed 100 yards rushing for a fourth straight game, scoring on two short touchdown runs to lead the Tigers (4-0, 2-0) over the Bulldogs (1-4, 0-2) at Baton Rouge. Scott finished with 141 yards in 27 carries. Jarrett Lee, who played throughout the game with Andrew Hatch still recovering from a concussion, put the game away with a 43-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Byrd, which made it 34-17 with under five minutes to go.
* at No. 15 Auburn 14, Tennessee 12: Jake Ricks recovered a fumble in the end zone at Auburn, Ala., and the Tigers (4-1, 2-1) sent the Volunteers (1-3, 0-2) to their worst start in 14 years. Tennessee fell to 1-3 for the first time since 1994, the second full season for embattled Coach Phillip Fulmer. Auburn backup quarterback Kodi Burns did just enough to preserve the win. His 10-yard pass to Montez Billings late in the game on third and five produced a first down and the Tigers ran out the clock.
* at South Carolina 26, Alabama Birmingham 13: Stephen Garcia completed 13 of 20 for 131 yards and ran for 86 more in the first significant playing time of his career, giving the Gamecocks (3-2) enough of an offensive kick to beat the Blazers (1-3) at Columbia. South Carolina’s defense held Alabama Birmingham to 207 yards and forced three turnovers as the Gamecocks won consecutive games for the first time since starting 6-1 last year.
* at Kentucky 41, Western Kentucky 3: Tony Dixon ran for two touchdowns and the Wildcats (4-0) ruined the first visit to Commonwealth Stadium for the Hilltoppers (2-3) in a victory at Lexington. Derrick Locke had a 100-yard kickoff return for Kentucky.
