CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / ENCINO

A husband and wife were found shot to death in the bedroom of their Encino home in an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said Sunday.
Police and fire crews responded to a report of shots fired about 12:35 p.m. in the 4800 block of Haskell Avenue, L.A. police said.
The husband appeared to have shot his wife multiple times in the torso and head with a handgun before shooting himself in the head, said Los Angeles police Det. Joel Price.
They have not been identified pending notification of relatives.
The couple, in their 30s, lived in the home with their three children -- a 12-year-old boy, a 10-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl.
The children were taken from the scene to a police station, where they were being cared for by crisis counselors.
