He destroys each piece with a sander and then paints over the canvas. Zocalo presents the Whitney Biennial artist in a discussion. No, we don’t know what social media has to do with it, but we’re eager to find out. Zocalo at MOCA, 250 S. Grand Ave. 7:30 p.m. Free. zocalopublicsquare.org.

Barnum’s Funundrum Does anyone outgrow trapeze daredevils, acrobats and goofily-costumed giant pachyderms? Well, maybe the elephants do, but kids of all ages should thrill to this bicentennial celebration of P.T. Barnum’s birthday. Stay for the unlikely feat of fitting three adults into a milk crate. Staples Center, 1111 S. Figueroa St., L.A. Through July 18. Times vary. $15-$100. https://www.staplescenter.com
