Walking tours showcase L.A.’s early movie palaces
- Share via
Every Saturday morning, the Los Angeles Conservancy conducts walking tours of the Broadway Historic Theatre and Commercial District.
Once the center of entertainment in L.A., Broadway is the home of 12 movie palaces built between 1910 and 1931. These theatres no longer regularly show films, and all have been adapted for special events, filming locations and retail.
Some, like the Orpheum, have been beautifully restored, and others require close inspection to detect the past glory of the architecture.
