Home Depot settles gender discrimination claim

The Home Depot has agreed to pay more than $83,000 to 46 women who claimed they were denied higher-paying sales jobs that went to men while they were forced to work as cashiers at a Southern California store.
The U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday that The Home Depot did not admit liability in the discrimination case but agreed to hire or promote five women to sales associate positions.
A federal investigation found that managers at the retailer’s Pomona location routinely channeled qualified women away from positions with higher pay and promotion opportunities.
The Home Depot is headquartered in Atlanta.
