Live chat with ‘Scandal’s’ Papa Pope, a.k.a. Joe Morton

He plays the guy who has no shot of getting a “world’s best dad” coffee mug for Father’s Day.
Film-TV-theater vet Joe Morton is maybe the most terrifying character on ABC’s “Scandal” — and that’s saying a lot. As Olivia’s menacing father, Rowan Pope (a.k.a. Papa Pope), Morton has demonstrated some very questionable parenting techniques — let’s not forget he enlisted someone to sleep with his daughter and make a sex tape of her — in his plan to keep Olivia (Kerry Washington) away from her on-again, off-again lover, President Fitz (Tony Goldwyn).
Morton will stop by the Los Angeles Times on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. PDT for a live chat to discuss his tough-as-nails character.
For a while he was just the mysterious man behind the black-ops organization B613 on the hit drama. Then the Season 2 finale happened, giving viewers the heart-pounding “Dad?” reveal, causing more commotion than a “Maury” paternity test episode. The third season explored the father-daughter relationship further, and to say the two are in dire need of a family therapist would be an understatement.
We’ll talk to Morton about being on “Scandal’s” roller-coaster ride, his thoughts on Rowan’s motivations and what he views as the scariest Rowan moment. And we’ll definitely try not to interrupt him in the process.
