Hollywood Headlines: A crazy week in review

Nicollette Sheridan’s feud with Marc Cherry may soon be coming to a legal end. The actress is suing the “Desperate Housewives” creator and Touchstone Television Productions for wrongful termination and battery over an incident four years ago. Sheridan, who is asking for $6 million in lost income, claims that Cherry slapped her on the head and then killed off her character when she complained. His contention? Fans around the globe were mourning the death of Monkees singer Davy Jones this week. The British icon, 66, who died of a heart attack in Martin County, Fla., shot to fame in the 1960s as a star of the Monkees TV show and band. He’s best known for his signature vocals on songs like “Daydream Believer” and “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You.”

Uma Thurman isn’t the only one expecting a baby; it looks like Snooki might be pregnant too. “The Artist” and “Hugo” were the big winners Sunday night at the 84th Academy Awards with five wins each. The top awards of the night went to Jean Dujardin (best actor) and Michel Hazanavicius (best director) for “The Artist,” which also won best picture, and Meryl Streep (best actress) for her performance in “Iron Lady.” “The Beginners” star Christopher Plummer and “The Help’s” Octavia Spencer took home statues for their supporting roles. “Hugo” nabbed several of the technical awards like art direction and cinematography.

Sean Young‘s Oscar night took a sour turn outside the Governors Ball when the actress was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery. Young was standing outside the party, which she was not invited to attend, when some type of physical altercation took place and a citizen’s arrest was made. Brad Pitt is showing his support of gay marriage by joining the upcoming reading of the play “8.” Pitt will join stars like George Clooney for the reading, based on the court case Perry vs. Schwarzenegger, which sought to overturn Prop. 8, Saturday at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre. Pitt will peform the part of U.S. District Chief Judge Vaughn R. Walker from a script written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (“Milk”). The blogosphere was in shock on Thursday as news spread that conservative commentator Andrew Breitbart had died. Breitbart, who exposed scandals like Bill Cllinton’s Monica Lewinsky affair and Anthony Weiner’s sexually suggestive Twitter pictures, collapsed and died outside his home in Brentwood.The author contributed to websites like the Drudge Report and the Huffington Post in addition to his own blogs like BigGovernment.com and Breitbart.com.
