105 Freeway closed; stranded motorists take selfies on roadway

All lanes of the 105 Freeway in Paramount have been closed in both directions as authorities respond to a man threatening to jump off an overcrossing.

[Updated at 10:03 p.m.: All lanes have reopened, according to the California Highway Patrol.]

A SigAlert was issued around 6:30 p.m, California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada said. She added that it was not clear if transition roads to the nearby 710 Freeway are closed. She also said she did not know where traffic was being diverted.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a man threatening to jump off an overcrossing onto the freeway below around 5:30 p.m., Sgt. Joe Reveles said. He said multiple units responded to the scene, but it was not clear how the situation was unfolding.

“There’s a jumper over in that area,” he said, “but where we are in that situation I couldn’t tell you.”

Pictures shot from overhead by local television news stations showed traffic.
