A 26-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested Sunday after he ran into a Sylmar hospital and stabbed an on-duty nurse, authorities said.
Ramiro Carnalla entered Olive View–UCLA Medical Center about 2 a.m. and went around the hospital’s weapons screening area, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Carnalla then ran into the building with security guards and deputies trailing after him.
As authorities searched the hospital, they heard a woman scream and found a nurse who had been stabbed several times in the upper and lower torso, authorities said.
The woman remains in critical condition.
Carnalla was arrested on suspicion of assault and a knife was recovered at the scene, authorities said.
The nurse and Carnalla do not appear to know each other, said Lt. Rich Burgoyne of the Sheriff’s Department. It’s unknown if Carnalla has a history of mental issues.
