Letters: Thanksgiving as a shopping day? No!

Re “Black Friday survival guide,” Business, Nov. 17
Although some would say we’ve already gone off the spiritual cliff, a sure way to do that is to let the retailers redefine our national day of Thanksgiving by opening earlier and earlier. It’s not Thankshopping or Thanksgetting Day. It’s one day a year for people of all faiths, or no faith at all, to stop and give thanks. It’s a day for families to be together and everyone to have some time to pause and ponder the blessings of life.
I’m all for pursuing happiness and making a buck, but is it asking too much for consumers and retailers to wait until midnight to avoid carving and slicing up what this day was created to be?
