Readers React: Sympathy for a father’s loss
- Share via
To the editor: I just read the touching op-ed article by Michael Metzler in which he laments the passage of another year that puts distance between him and his young daughter’s death in 2014. I understand his pain. (“Why I’m not looking forward to the new year,” Opinion, Dec. 30)
I send my heartfelt condolences to him and his family for the loss of a precious child. May her memory serve as an inspiration to him and family and may they know her life was not lived in vain

To the editor: While we can neither relieve Metzler of his grief (after the death of his daughter in 2014) nor stop the start of a new year, we can — as readers — “listen” to him.
He writes, “I want to slow it all down and just sit for a while, not moving until I’m ready, not talking about it until I can get the words right.”
Take your time, Mr. Metzler; we’ll sit quietly with you.
