Baseball: Simi Valley is waiting for the arrival of Justin Campbell
- Share via
Any team that beats Simi Valley over the next two seasons, enjoy the moment. Come 2016 through 2019, after Justin Campbell and his buddies arrive, things will get very difficult.
Campbell is a 6-foot-2 seventh-grader who just turned 13 last month. He’s a pitcher so good that some people say he’s the best they’ve seen for his age. He’s the younger brother of Simi Valley senior pitcher Matt Campbell.
He’s walking around these days with a cast on his left non-throwing arm because he broke it dunking a basketball. That’s probably the end of his basketball days if his baseball advisors have any say.
He helped the USA 12U baseball team win a gold medal last summer. He’s playing on a travel baseball team with a group of players who hope to hang together through high school at Simi Valley.
Simi Valley Coach Matt La Belle can’t wait for Campbell’s arrival. By then, he’ll be 6-5 or 6-6 and the radar guns will be coming out en masse.
