Boys’ basketball: Mater Dei holds off Orange Lutheran in Trinity League opener

Santa Ana Mater Dei (14-2) had to go on the road on Tuesday night in its Trinity League opener and came away with a 71-62 victory over Orange Lutheran (12-3).
Sophomore Spencer Freedman led Mater Dei with 19 points. Chris Williams had 17 points and Joseph Riley 16 for the Lancers.
Servite defeated Sonora, 71-54. Cameron Griffin scored 29 points and Pearson Parker 20 points.
Viewpoint pulled out a 69-67 win over Oaks Christian. Sayo Denloye connected on the game-winning shot. Aram Arslanian finished with 22 points and Christian Juzang added 17 points.
North Hollywood picked up another impressive win over a City Section Division I school, knocking off Gardena, 47-45. Sean Fernandez scored 32 points.
University defeated Van Nuys, 82-76. Jude Agbasi led University with 24 points and Adam Chaarawi added 24.
In a Pacific League opener, Crescenta Valley defeated Burroughs, 61-50. Tristen Hull scored 18 points. Pasadena defeated Glendale, 71-43.
Los Altos improved to 10-1 with a 68-56 win over Hamilton.
Rancho Verde stayed unbeaten after a 47-44 win over Rancho Cucamonga. Etiwanda (11-4) defeated Colony, 46-45. Miles Oliver scored 16 points for Etiwanda.
Reseda Cleveland defeated San Fernando, 75-66. Wayne Currie finished with 27 points.
St. Augustine handed St. John Bosco its second defeat with a 62-52 victory in San Diego.
Sam Kobrine led a Corona del Mar comeback that resulted in a 51-48 victory over Newport Harbor. He made a three-pointer with seven seconds left and finished with 21 points.
Narbonne defeated Quartz Hill, 88-57. Camarillo defeated Canyon Country Canyon, 65-62.
Sophomore guard Kobe Smith of Gardena Serra scored 38 points in a 93-80 win over North Torrance.
Fairfax defeated Sylmar, 87-46. Brett Deans had 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Oxnard defeated Westlake, 54-49. Hunter Gettings scored 17 points.
Simi Valley defeated Newbury Park, 89-67. Kaden Young scored 17 points and Elijah Holts 16. Saugus defeated Tesoro, 53-52.
Ayala improved to 13-2 with a 98-53 win over West Covina. Austen Awosika scored 25 points and John Edgar added 20 points.
Edison defeated Beckman, 80-78. Ocean View improved to 12-4 with a 69-65 win over Costa Mesa. Zamir Kelly scored 23 points.
