The Fairfax basketball team has started the summer in impressive fashion. The Lions are unbeaten and won the Maranatha tournament on Saturday.
This week, the Lions host their own tournament beginning Monday, with top teams set to offer a challenge, including Sierra Canyon, Chaminade, Corona Centennial and Mater Dei.
Keying the Lions’ success has been point guard Lindsey Drew, who has been a facilitator for a talented group of guards that includes Donald Gipson, Antoine Monroe and Loren Currie.
Coach Harvey Kitani declined to choose an MVP for the Maranatha tournament.
“So many guys played well,” Kitani said. “At this point, they’re doing it together.”
Most teams should be at full strength early in the week for the Fairfax tournament. But after that, players leave for camps.
