Football: City Section teams go 4-11 vs. Southern Section
- Share via
In the matchup of City Section teams vs. Southern Section teams, the Southern Section held an 11-4 advantage.
The only City teams to prevail were Narbonne over Palos Verdes, Hollywood over Hoover, San Pedro over Morro Bay and West Adams over Pasadena Marshall.
But all is not bad for the City teams.
Take the improvement Garfield is making. There’s a method to the madness. In 2011, Garfield lost to Bishhop Amat, 14-0, and Edison, 27-7. In 2012, Garfield lost to St. Bonaventure, 48-0, and Edison, 24-0. Last season, Garfield lost to St. Bonaventure, 42-14, and Edison, 14-0.
Coach Lorenzo Hernandez schedules two tough games to prepare his team for City competition. And in its opener on Friday, Garfield was competitive with San Clemente before losing, 38-22. Next up is Edison on Friday, and the Bulldogs could be very dangerous.
Junior quarterback Ausencio Navarro passed for 284 yards and three touchdowns with three interceptions. The versatile Stevie Williams caught five passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns.
So there’s sometimes good that comes out of defeats when a City team loses to a Southern Section team.
