Football: Dorsey has fun defeating rival Crenshaw at the Coliseum

There was a hop to the step when Dorsey players first walked onto the Coliseum floor Saturday morning. If there had been music playing, some probably would have started to dance.

The Dons couldn’t wait to play rival Crenshaw in a Coliseum League game on the field the Rams and USC call home. In a game filled with big plays, the Dons came through with a 42-14 victory.

Quarterback Jerman Gotoy had touchdown runs of 59, one and eight yards and passed 41 yards to Elijah Boykin for another touchdown. Lavon Card ran 22 yards with a fumble recovery. Trea Bloodworth had sacks resulting in losses of 16 and 17 yards.

“It was amazing,” Bloodworth said of the experience.

Crenshaw’s sole offensive weapon was quarterback Daiyan Henley, who gave the Cougars a brief lead with a 73-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. He also passed 63 yards to Jelani Harris for a touchdown. Crenshaw trailed, 21-14, at halftime.

Henley rushed for 141 yards in 15 carries for Crenshaw despite four sacks. Gotoy rushed for 93 yards in seven carries for Dorsey. Charles Mincy Jr. had 69 yards in 10 carries.

By winning, Dorsey (5-3, 2-1) kept its hopes alive to be the No. 2 seed in the City Section Division I playoffs. Crenshaw (4-4, 2-1) gets to play unbeaten Hawkins (8-0, 3-0) next week.
