Football: Narbonne must get past rival Carson to reach final
- Share via
Two-time defending City Section Division I champion Narbonne is one win away from a trip to the championship game at East Los Angeles College, but it must get past Marine League rival Carson on Friday.
Coach Manuel Douglas has been able to guide his team into the position it always wanted to be in despite injury after injury this season. But the Gauchos are starting to get healthy, and that could be trouble for opponents.
All-City running back Johnell Jackson hasn’t played in five weeks but he could see limited action against the Colts, who’ve had their own injuries to overcome. Most notably, Kiki Flores has stepped in at quarterback since an early season injury to Justin Collins and ignited the Colts.
Carson lost to Narbonne, 31-8, in a Marine League game. You can throw out that score, because with the season on the line, everyone’s intensity level will be sky high for Friday’s game at Narbonne.
Narbonne has a calm, confident senior at quarterback in Eban Jackson. He was part of Long Beach Poly’s Pac-5 championship team last season. His ability to pass and run will be key.
