After playing no football during the summer while focusing on baseball, Brian Gadsby of Crescenta Valley showed up last month for football practice and had to quickly get back into playing shape.
On Thursday in his season opener against Crescenta Valley, he looked a little rusty at the outset, losing the ball on a fumble, getting intercepted, then losing the ball again after a poor handoff. But Gadsby got better and finished with three touchdown passes while also scoring a TD in Crescenta Valley’s 55-14 win over Verdugo Hills at Glendale High.
Gadsby completed 18 of 34 passes for 311 yards.
Jordan Lobianco had the play of the game, returning an interception 99 yards for a touchdown in the first half. Chase Walker caught two TD passes. Connor Van Ginkel caught nine passes for 168 yards and one touchdown.
In Orange County, Corona del Mar won its 28th consecutive game with a 37-0 win over Dana Hills.
La Serna defeated Los Osos, 42-26. Enrique Pacheco passed for four touchdowns.
Norwalk Glenn ended a 17-game losing streak by scoring with 10 seconds left to defeat Pioneer, 7-3.
