Granada Hills Coach Tom Harp was clutching his clipboard and nervously pacing on the sideline. Palisades kept making the Highlanders work extra hard.
But in the end, it was Granada Hills winning its fifth City Section girls’ volleyball championship on Saturday night with a 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-18 victory over the Dolphins in the Open Division final at Roybal.
Strong serving by Palisades and Angel Echipue (seven aces), in particular, kept the Dolphins in the match. But Granada Hills’ Sarah Hagge and Nicole Deobler each had 13 kills to lift the Highlanders.
In the Division III final, University defeated Central City Value in five sets.
In Division II, Sun Valley Poly defeated Wilson for the title in four sets.
In Division I, Venice defeated Cleveland in four sets.
