No. 24 Pittsburgh gets past Georgia Tech, 89-84, for ninth victory in a row

James Robinson and Jamel Artis scored 18 points apiece and No. 24 Pittsburgh held off Georgia Tech, 89-84, on Wednesday at Pittsburgh.

Robinson had eight assists for the Panthers (13-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), who won their ninth consecutive game behind a balanced attack even with second-leading scorer Michael Young limited early because of foul trouble. Young finished with 17 points in 18 minutes.

Adam Smith led the Yellow Jackets (10-5, 0-2) with a career-high 30 points, including eight three-point baskets.

at No. 3 Maryland 88, Rutgers 63: Jake Layman scored 18 points, Diamond Stone had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and the Terrapins (14-1, 3-0 in Big Ten Conference) took control early on the way to their eighth victory in a row.

The Terrapins used runs of 10-0 and 12-2 to build a 46-18 lead after the first half.

The Scarlet Knights (6-10, 0-3) made six field goals and had only one offensive rebound in the first half. Corey Sanders scored 16 points for Rutgers, which is 2-19 in conference play since joining the Big Ten last season.

No. 10 Xavier 74, at St. John’s 66: Myles Davis scored 19 points and Trevon Bluiett had 18 for the Musketeers (14-1, 2-1 in Big East Conference), who handed the Red Storm (7-9, 0-3) its sixth consecutive loss.

Federico Mussini and Ron Mvoika each had 19 points for St. John’s, which shot 33.8% (23 of 68) from the field.

at No. 11 Villanova 72, Seton Hall 63: Daniel Ochefu had 20 points and 18 rebounds to help the Wildcats (13-2, 3-0 in Big East) win their fifth game in a row.

Isaiah Whitehead led the Pirates (12-3, 2-1) with 20 points.

at No. 13 Iowa State 76, Texas Tech 69: Matt Thomas scored 22 points, Jameel McKay had 19 points and 14 rebounds, and the Cyclones (12-2, 1-1 in Big 12 Conference) prevailed after blowing an 18-point lead.

Justin Gray scored 14 points for the Red Raiders (11-2, 1-1).

No. 14 Duke 91, at Wake Forest 75: Grayson Allen scored 24 points to lead the Blue Devils (13-2, 2-0 in ACC), who shot 52% from the field and opened a conference season with consecutive road victories for only the second time under Coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Devin Thomas had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Codi Miller-McIntyre had a season-best 20 points for the Demon Deacons (9-5, 0-2).

No. 21 Texas A&M 61, Mississippi State 60: Jalen Jones scored 11 points, including the go-ahead dunk with 20 seconds left, and the Aggies (12-2, 2-0 Southeastern Conference) won their fifth consecutive game despite shooting 30.6% (19 of 62) from the field.

Gavin Ware had 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs (7-6, 0-1).

at No. 25 Dayton 93, Massachusetts 63: Charles Cooke scored 18 points and the Flyers (12-2, 2-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference) had 26 points off turnovers.

The Flyers, who shot 56.7% from the field, also had 10 second-chance points to zero for the Minutemen (8-6, 1-1).

Donte Clark and Trey Davis scored 21 points apiece for the Minutemen.

Pac-12 Conference

at Oregon 68, California 65: Chris Boucher scored 18 points and Tyler Dorsey had 17 to help lift the Ducks (12-3, 1-1), who sealed the victory by making five of eight free throws to finish the game.

Jaylen Brown led the Golden Bears (12-4, 2-1) with 20 points and nine rebounds. Ivan Rabb had 17 points and eight rebounds, and Tyrone Wallace scored 16 points.

Cal had 46-32 margin on points in the paint but missed all 12 of its three-point shots and committed 18 turnovers.
