Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook is expected to be out at least four week after having surgery Saturday to repair a broken bone in his right hand.
Westbrook suffered the injury when he hit teammate Kendrick Perkins’ elbow with while going for a rebound during the Thunder’s loss Thursday to the Clippers, 93-90.
The three-time NBA All-Star left the game after playing just over eight minutes. He finished with two points and four assists.
Oklahoma City is also without the NBA’s reigning most valuable player and scoring champion, Kevin Durant, who is out until late November with a broken right foot.
Westbrook averaged 21.8 points with 6.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game last season.
He had 38 points with six assists in the Thunder’s season-opening loss Wednesday to the Portland Trail Blazers, 106-89.
Sebastian Telfair is expected to start in Westbrook’s place for now with Reggie Jackson out with an ankle injury.
Oklahoma City was eliminated from the playoffs last year by the San Antonio Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, four games to two.
