Justin Davis is ready to take on Arizona State again

The timing is right for Justin Davis to have a repeat performance against Arizona State.

Last season, Davis rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns in 10 carries against the Sun Devils, an effort lost in the aftermath of USC’s 62-41 defeat and Lane Kiffin’s firing a few hours later.

After rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown in 15 carries against Oregon State -- and also catching a touchdown pass -- Davis said he finally trusted his surgically repaired ankle.

Davis suffered a season-ending injury last October at Notre Dame.

“It was hard coming back,” he said, “but the hard work has paid off.”

Davis said he remained patient after getting limited carries in the Trojans’ first three games.

“I just tried not to freak out,” he said, adding, “and stick to what I know best.”

Davis and Javorius Allen shared carries against Oregon State. Davis said he and Allen, who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown in 20 carries, complemented each other in the Trojans’ up-tempo offense.

Arizona State Coach Todd Graham apparently agrees.

During Tuesday’s Pac-12 teleconference with reporters, Graham said the Sun Devils would not face a better combination of tailbacks this season.

USC plays Arizona State on Saturday at the Coliseum.
