L.A. Times Travel Show: Lighting, composition and moments

You can get great pictures from a phone or a point-and-shoot, and Kathy Pyon of the L.A. Times photo staff will tell you how.
In a talk at the L.A. Times Travel Show, which she will repeat at 12:30 on Sunday, she told show attendees that the photos they were about to see were not enhanced. “Everything you see is from my phone or from my point and shoot,” she said.
So how do you get great photos out of the littlest gadgets? Three basic principles, she said: lighting, composition and moments. “When you think of those three things when you’re out in the world, you’ll be ahead of the game,” she said.
Other members of The Times’ staff will speak Sunday on travel bargains and navigating area airports. Adam Richman of “Man v. Food” will also speak Sunday along with Europe guru Rick Steves.
Tickets cost $10 at the door or online. The show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
