A 17-year-old Oxnard youth, convicted of murdering the owner of a doughnut shop during an attempted robbery, was given the maximum sentence of 27 years to life in prison.
Ventura County Superior Court Judge Charles McGrath sentenced Kevin Taylor for the murder of Soon Jaar Hur, 33, the mother of two children.
The judge said psychiatric reports showed “absolutely no hope of rehabilitating Taylor,” who was tried and sentenced as an adult.
According to trial testimony, Taylor entered the Oxnard Holiday Doughnut Store in May, 1984, with a gun and demanded money. When Mrs. Hur refused, he shot her through the heart. Witnesses testified that Taylor bragged about the killing several times.
