By unanimous votes, the City Council has chosen Thomas Heinsheimer as mayor and Godfrey Pernell as mayor pro tem. The office of mayor is rotated annually among council members. A business executive who has been on the council for 13 years, Heinsheimer succeeds Ginny Leeuwenbergh. Heinsheimer has served as mayor four times.
Pernell, a dentist, has been a council member since 1975 when he was appointed to fill a vacated post and has served as mayor twice.
The new council leaders were sworn in at a special council meeting last week.
