A 17-hit attack, including home runs by Mike Lieberthal and Dan Freedman, powered the Westlake-Agoura American Legion team to a 17-2 thumping of Ventura in the opening round of the Gene Waid Memorial tournament Friday at Camarillo High.
Lieberthal clubbed his 11th home run--a two-run shot--in an 11-run fifth inning, then Freedman upstaged his teammate with a three-run shot. The big inning forced the game to be halted because of a 10-run rule.
Bob Grandpre (6-0) pitched four innings and earned the win.
Lieberthal was three for four with two runs batted in, Freedman was two for four with four RBIs, and Chris Pittenger was three for four with four RBIs.
Westlake-Agoura will play Las Vegas Nevada at 12:30 this afternoon at Camarillo.
