San Fernando detectives are to seek murder charges today against three suspected gang members in the June 3 shooting death of a security guard during a robbery of the San Fernando Swap Meet, police said.
The three San Fernando Valley men are already in jail on unrelated charges, Police Lt. Rico Castro said. “They don’t even officially know that they’re being charged yet,” he said.
Police said they will hold a press conference this morning, at which prosecutors from the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office are to announce that they will seek the death penalty for the three suspects, Rico said.
Two of the suspects, including the one to be charged with the shooting, are adults, Rico said. The third is a juvenile.
The suspects are accused of stealing $12,000 from the swap meet manager, and then shooting to death Roland Everett Teal, a 61-year-old security guard, as he chased them.
