When Airport Faces Overruns, Taxpayer Picks Up Tab

Your article “North, South on Collision Course Over Airport Site” contained two factual errors that create the appearance of more contentiousness than exists.
First, the Orange County Cities Airport Authority was formed in 1974 by cities concerned with the lack of airport facilities. Newport Beach was a latecomer that joined in 1986. The cities of San Clemente and Irvine declined invitations to join during the past few weeks.
Second, several sites are considered. The airport authority is on record supporting the study of George Air Force Base and will interview consultants on July 25 who will suggest studies of other sites to serve local air travel needs.
