Darrelle Revis headed to New England Patriots

Darrelle Revis didn’t stay unemployed for long.

And the New England Patriots didn’t remain without a Pro Bowl cornerback for long either.

Revis has agreed to terms on a contract with the Patriots, his marketing and business manager John Geiger confirmed Thursday morning on Twitter.

ESPN had been reporting Revis and the Patriots had agreed to a one-year, $12-million contract since Wednesday, the day Revis was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the day after New England lost free agent cornerback Aqib Talib, a Pro Bowler in 2013, to the Denver Broncos.

Revis has made the Pro Bowl in five of the last six seasons and spent the first six years of his career with the Patriots’ AFC East rival New York Jets before being traded to Tampa Bay last off-season.

Due $16 million from the Buccaneers in 2014, Revis was cut by the rebuilding team in a salary-cap move.

For the Patriots, it’s a move similar to one from a year ago, when they quickly replaced departed star receiver Wes Welker with Danny Amendola, who was considered one of the top available players at the position.
